General Practice Conference and Exhibition Melbourne, 2008: Doctors' e-Cohort Study booth success

Thank you everybody who visited the Doctors’ e-Cohort Study booth at the GPCE conference in Melbourne, November 14-16 2008.  Also special thanks to Melisa Mlinaric from the Reed Exhibition who helped organize the booth and made it happen at such a short notice.

It was a great pleasure to be able to see some of you in person stopping by to say hello, chatting face to face and getting your feedback and comments on the study. I am pleased to announce that an additional 71 doctors and some medical students signed up at the event to join the study. Some of you might have noticed our booth’s name “DO DOCTORS’ E-COHORT STUDY”.  The first two letters were actually meant to read “D zero”.  That was supposed to be the booth identification which turned into a small joke that got a few laughs and attention!!

A number of interesting and useful questions arose from the conference attendees and I have summarised these below:

Q: Will there be a preliminary analysis of the results available to participants soon and when?

A: We hope to place some interim results on the website some time after the registration closes mid-2009.

Q: Can foreign doctors who are preparing to sit the AMC exam (not yet practicing in Australia) participate in the study?

A: Sorry, unfortunately we are only registering doctors and medical students who are or "used to be" in the Australian Health System.

Q: Can doctors who plan to go on leave participate in the study?

A: Yes. We encourage all doctors to participate including those who are planning to go on leave or who are currently on leave.

In any case I really enjoyed my "booth adventure" and am extremely pleased with the attendance. I think everybody should give themselves a big pat on the back for registering and completing the survey.

Finally, we are extremely grateful to the conference organisers who donated the booth to the study. This generous gesture ensured that we were able to gain maximum exposure at the conference.

Thank you to all our sponsors, partners & friends

While we receive some funding from grant monies, we also rely heavily on the generous support from you all. We cannot thank you enough; however we can offer the opportunity for each of you to have a live link to your organisation's homepage on our study website. If you are interested in this offer, please contact the Project Manager.
