Professor David Wilkinson ; MBBS, MSc, MD, PhD, DSc, FAFPHM, FRACGP, FACCRM, MRCP
Professor Wilkinson is the Head of the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland. Much of his current research is in primary care of skin cancer, and is driven by clinical need with a focus on defining quality of care indicators and improving patient care. David also collaborates with Professor Simon Stewart on the Heart of Soweto project in South Africa, and leads a major study exploring determinants of progression at medical school, professionalism among medical students, and determinants of subsequent professional behaviour.
Professor Wilkinson has been involved in research and policy debate around medical workforce issues, in particular rural medical workforce numbers and distribution. He has made significant contributions to medical education and also to improved clinical practice. David has been a member of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) for six years and has been involved in several major health policy reform initiatives, including the Generational Review of the South Australian Health System (2002) that led to fundamental restructure of the health system in that state.
